Cooper River Dragon Boat Club
Over dinner in April 2005, a dozen women who exercised together at a local gym were looking for a new and fun challenge. They completed a 150-mile charity bicycle ride across New Jersey and were so inspired that they decided to form a Dragon Boat team, the River Sirens. Joined by ten other women, they set out to train for an October 500 meter race in Philadelphia and took home their first medal. Inspired and energized, they focused on competitive training and charitable endeavors, including the creation of a sister team, The River Sisters, a crew made entirely of women cancer survivors, committed to fostering strength, wellness, and camaraderie. With the support of the Cooper Health System, the River Sirens purchased their own dragon boat, “Jeanie,” and have been paddling on the Cooper River ever since.
In 2020 the club has been re-branded and renamed as the Cooper River Dragon Boat Club to more accurately reflect their goals and values. We are one of two competitive dragon boat clubs on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, New Jersey. We have high expectations for ourselves and expect to compete competitively at local, national and international races. We also have a place for paddlers of every level who wish to participate on our Recreational Crew.
